Services for Children with a DisabilityThe Children with Disability Team?
We are a team dedicated to supporting Children with disabilities, their parents/carers and families living in the Merthyr Tydfil area.
Children with disabilities are defined as Children (aged 0 – 17 years) who have a learning disability and or a significant physical or sensory impairment.
Whilst the team will continue to work with some Children beyond their 18th Birthday, most Children will be transferred to the Adult Teams. The transition process will be carefully managed to ensure that your needs are still provided for.
Who makes up the Team?
The Team is made up of a Service Manager, Social Workers, Social Worker Assistant and Direct Service Providers.
Helping A Child With A Disability?
Have fun and make a real difference to the lives of disabled children and their families.
We need people like YOU to spend time with disabled children and involve them in everyday activities at home or in your community.
The children may have learning difficulties, autism or physical impairments. They all need opportunities to have fun, meet new people, try new activities and gain independence. Regular short breaks with families and individuals give them the chance to do this. At the same time, their parents get a break from caring.
We need all kinds of people - you may be single or have a partner, be young or older, working, retired or unemployed. You may or may not have children of your own.
You do not need to have looked after disabled children before. You do not need qualifications or experience - just energy and commitment and a desire to support a disabled child in your community.
Training and support are provided. You will also be paid an allowance.
