Social Workers RegisterFrom 1 April 2005, it will be an offence for anyone to use the title of "Social Worker" unless he or she is registered with the Care Council for Wales or with one of the Councils of the other nations in the UK.
This requirement will give added protection to anyone receiving a service from a social worker and will avoid confusion as to the status of the person visiting to offer a service.
Anyone convicted of an offence will be liable to pay a fine of up to £5,000.
At the time of going to press, approximately 600 social workers are registered with the Care Council for Wales and the Council is encouraging all qualified social workers to register as soon as possible.
