Happy New Year to you all from the Supporting People Team! We hope you have a happy and prosperous 2010.

Planning Event 2010

The theme for this years Supporting People event has been confirmed as ‘From Planning to Commissioning’ and it is hoped that the event will build on the work already taking place around improving planning and commissioning.

Funding Review

The funding review of all SP funded services is nearing completion. In the very near future Providers will receive formal notification of funding from April 2010.  We will make a public announcement as soon as possible.

The new MAASH IT system

The new MAASH IT system continues to be in development. It is expected that the new system will go live at the end of January 2010.

New MAASH forms

As of November the 1st 2009 we are introducing new MAASH forms. From this date on we will not accept any other version of the forms. The new forms are available on the website.

MAASH

Managing Access to Adapted Accommodation was launched on Tuesday 1st July 2008.

Training for Referral agencies and Providers of Support and housing took place on 15th July & 16th July 2008.

The Official Launch took place in September 2008. Further updates will be published when available.

Open Days

On the 18th of June 2009 a very successful planning event was held in Pentrebach Cricket club to look at the barriers to collecting data and proper planning issues.

The event was attending by over 70 people with a varied combination of provider agency staff, managers and strategic planners along with councillors and representatives from the Supporting People Planning Group.

A great success- the event drove home the importance of filling in the MAASH 1 forms (found on this website) to collect data and proper planning using the data collected to meet the needs of people in Merthyr Tydfil.

If you have any questions about the planning day, or if you would like to be involved in the next open day, then please feel free to contact the Supporting People team.

Successful Bids

The Welsh Assembly Government awarded Merthyr Tydfil additional SP funding of £50k from 2009-10 forward. Two service areas have successfully bid for a share of this.

A young people’s out of hours service will put its share together with some Cymorth funding to provide a comprehensive out of hours floating support service for young people aged 16-17.

The other successful bid consisted of a hospital to home scheme for service users with mental health problems in order to aid in their discharge from hospital and help them to maintain their tenancies therefore reducing the chances that they will have to be re-admitted to hospital or other higher intensity support schemes.

 Funding Review

This year the SPPG has taken on the task of reviewing the funding of all Supporting People Grant funded and Supporting People Revenue Grant funded schemes.

Strategic planners have been asked to justify the current spend on support schemes in order that we can identify areas that may need additional funding and areas where funding can be reduced.

It is hoped that this process will release some funding so that new, much-needed support schemes can be created to meet some of the gaps currently present in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough.

The deadline for re-submitting schemes for the funding review is 30th of September 2009. So watch this space……..
