Cyfarthfa Castle has a room licensed to undertake civil marriage ceremonies. This section gives you all you need to book a Wedding Service for your special day.
The Marriage Room
There is seating for 48 guests, the bride, groom and Registrar. This is the maximum number allowed into the room due to fire restrictions and no more than this can be admitted. Any additional guests will be able to wait within the museum galleries to see the Bride and Groom after the service.
After the Ceremony, you will be able to take advantage of the superb surroundings of the castle interiors and grounds for your wedding photographs. If you wish to use the front steps for a photograph, please be very prompt as it is the main access into the museum.
Availability
Weddings are available on the following days, within the times specified.
Wednesdays & Fridays 2.30pm - 4.00pm
Saturdays 12.30pm - 2.00pm
Sundays (1st April - 30th September only) 11.00am - 12.30pm
Weddings will not be available on Bank Holiday weekends (Fri-Mon Inclusive), the Christmas period from December 24th - January 2nd, and days upon which a Civic Event is taking place within the Park and / or museum.
In exceptional circumstances, it may be necessary to refuse a wedding on a particular day, if pre-bookings by visitors would make the wedding service impractical.
This service is already very popular, so book as early as possible to avoid disappointment. The cost of hiring the room is set annually and the cost of the Registrar is in ADDITION to the Museum fee.
Wedding Receptions
At present, it is not possible to offer this service due to space restrictions within the building. However our tea-room will be open for normal service during the time you will be in the Castle, and if guests wish to use the café, they will be very welcome.
Charges
- Marriages (per wedding on Wednesdays & Fridays) - £200
- Marriages (per wedding on Saturdays) - £250
- Marriages (per wedding on Sundays April – September only) - £300
How to Make a Booking
1. If you wish to book the Wedding Room, contact the museum by calling 01685 723112 or e-mail museum@merthyr.gov.uk first to ensure the date and time is available (due to demand and time restrictions it is advisable to book well in advance).
2. If the date and time are free, immediately contact the Registrar to ensure a Registrar is available on the day.
This is essential, as no wedding can take place without a Registrar. The museum takes no responsibility for booking a Registrar.
3. If the Registrar can meet your needs, advise the Museum, who will confirm your booking. If all is satisfactory, a Pro Forma booking form will be completed and sent / given to you, giving the time, date and names of the couple to be married. Full payment to the museum is due within 28 days of this pro forma, and upon receipt of the payment, the booking contract is complete, and a wedding pack will be sent out to you.
The Registrars fee is payable in full at least 10 days before the service.
4. You must ensure you meet all legal requirements as advised by the Registrar prior to the Wedding service. Please contact the Registrar if you have any queries. The museum cannot be held responsible for any oversight in this area.
