Town Twinning

Merthyr Tydfil is twinned with Clichy-la-Garenne, an industrial town in the suburbs of Paris, France, with a strong Celtic tradition.

The two towns were twinned on 28th February 1981, and have since worked together to strengthen links between the two communities, with school exchanges and visits over the years including Ynysowen Male Voice Choir visiting the French town in 1984!

Avenue de Clichy was named as a tribute to the two towns commitment to their ties across the Channel.
