Aberfan & Merthyr Vale Community Centre closing for essential maintenance

Aberfan & Merthyr Vale Community Centre closing for essential maintenance
Reference : PR1122
Category : Press Release

Due to essential maintenance works at Aberfan and Merthyr Vale Community Centre, the lower level of the facility will close at 4pm on Sunday 10th February, with the rest of the building closing from 4pm on Sunday 17th February for approximately 6 weeks.

We currently anticipate a re-opening date of Tuesday 2nd April 2013.

The closure comes as a result of a Refurbishment & Demolition survey that is routinely carried out prior to the commencement of scheduled re-wiring works, during which small fragments of asbestos were found above the ceiling voids.  There was no evidence of asbestos found in the general public circulation areas; therefore there is no risk to staff or customers.  A licensed contractor has now been appointed to do the removals work.

In order to minimise disruption to customers, Aberfan members will have access to the facilities at Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Centre (MTLC) at no additional cost, swimming lessons have been re-located to MTLC and, where possible, block bookings and parties have been re-located to another Merthyr Tydfil Leisure venue.  Anyone participating in a non centre-run activity usually held at Aberfan centre will need to contact their group leader for information on where the activity has been re-located.

During the closure updates will be posted on the Council’s website www.merthyr.gov.uk and Facebook page (follow us @Merthyr Tydfil CBC).

Merthyr Tydfil Leisure would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the closure.

For further information please contact Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Centre on (01685) 727476.
