Category : Press Release

In preparation for the development of Penderyn Square, additional remediation work will be carried out at the Castle Cinema Site.  Starting next week (week commencing 18th February), the remediation work will take 4 weeks to complete.

Four disabled bays are being cordoned off at Castle Yard from 7:00pm on Sunday, 17th February for the duration of the works to allow access for machinery to the Castle Cinema Site for the works to be carried out.  Throughout this period there will be 6 disabled bays available on Castle Yard and eight disabled bays in the northern end of Castle Street Car Park.

Penderyn Square, which will be located outside the Old Town Hall, will be a key focal point for the cultural identity of Merthyr Tydfil and will be a vibrant environment that will host events throughout the year, celebrating the heritage of the town.

Once complete, traffic will be still be able to move from Pontmorlais through to Church Street, however, there will no longer be vehicular access to Castle Street.

Work will begin in summer 2013 and will take 18 months to complete.
