Garden Waste Collections
Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council will collect your garden waste on a weekly basis at the same time as we collect your food waste. Householders that have been provided with a green, reusable, garden waste sack who participate in the scheme and find that they do not have enough capacity using one bag can request an additional bag.
You can also put additional garden waste out in your own sacks providing they are clearly marked as garden waste.
Important information;
Please note that more than 10 bags will be classed as a bulky garden waste collection.
The following items can be put in your garden waste bag:
- Leaves

- Plants

- Hedge clippings
- Tree and shrub prunings
- Small Branches
Please do not put any of the following in your garden waste sack:
- Animal waste
- Household waste
- Food waste (Please use your blue bin)
- Stones
- Invasive plants (Japanese knotweed, Hogweed, Ragwort)
- Wood
- Soil and turf
What happens to your Food and Garden Waste
Food and garden waste is taken to a local composting facility. After approximately 18 weeks, the waste has decomposed and is mixed with recycled virgin top soil. The new material is used in bedding and landscaping across the County Borough.
