You are never too young to visit your Library!

Children are never too young to start visiting the Library. Merthyr Tydfil Public Libraries offer lots and lots for younger members. We have:

• Board Books
• Picture Books
• Catch Up Literacy Reading Books
• Stories for younger readers
• Books to help with homework
• Story Books
• Books for older readers
• Books in Welsh
• Books on CD
  

Sharing books with your children from an early age has been proven to help with speech and language development and educational achievement.

Joining the Library is easy, just fill in a form for your child and they will be given their own Library card. They will be able to borrow up to 8 books at a time and there are no fines. The only charge is the cost of a stamp if we need to send you out a reminder if they don't come back on time. Don't forget that just like adults, children can access their account online and renew their books. Alternatively you can ring us up or drop us an email and we can extend the loan date that way.

There are events and activities throughout the year for children to take part in. Every Summer the Library takes part in a national summer reading scheme where children are encouraged to read 6 books through the holiday period and we then have a celebration event at the end of the summer for all those who completed the challenge!

What's On?

Story and Rhyme Times

Central Library, Dowlais Library and Treharris Library hold regular Story and Rhyme sessions, which are fun, informal sessions of rhymes, stories and play. A great way for children to meet new friends and a relaxed way for mums, dads and carers to get to know other parents and carers. Please contact us using the details below to find out more.

Homework Clubs

We can provide free Internet access and help with research for projects, just contact us if you would like more details.

Chatterbooks Reading Groups

We now offer children's reading groups, all ages and abilities are welcome. A friendly, informal and fun way to share reading experiences for children aged 6 -12.
