The Mobile Library service operates on a fortnightly basis. If you need more details about when or where the Library van stops, please contact your local Library.
Impact of Mobile Library Visits
Mobile Libraries serve the communities that don't have static service points and provide additional resources that those communities may otherwise miss out on.
Recent improvements have seen the development of 'Community stops' which are very different from the traditional services we offer. There are two very successful Community Stops at Troedyrhiw Junior School and Co-Op at Pentrebach.
Merthyr Tydfil Public Libraries have two mobile library vans and details of the stops and areas they serve can be seen at any of the borough Libraries. If you can't call in, give us a ring or drop us a line and we can send you information about stops.
Our overall targets for library "outreach" services are to:
- Provide convenient access to library services to all communities not served by a library building
- Ensure that all local people are aware of their entitlements and what the whole library service offers them
Our main method to deliver those services are the mobile libraries. They still run mainly traditional routes and we need to review those and ensure that we develop a new more effective pattern of service.

Home Links Service
In addition to the Mobile Libraries, Merthyr Tydfil Public Libraries offers a Home Links service which helps those people who cannot access our services normally. This may be for a variety of reasons, such as disability, being housebound or caring for someone who is housebound.
If you want to know more about the Home Links Service please do contact us.
