You can check what we have available by looking in our online catalogue. You can also log in to your own account, renew what you currently have out, and reserve items that you would like to borrow. You can also borrow eBooks using our eBooks subscription service, and eAudio books using our e audio books subscription service.
You can use computers with Internet access as well as Office software at any of the County Borough Libraries, please see the rules you need to follow when you use one of our computers in our Acceptable use of Computers Policy.
Free E-books and e-Audio books
You can not only borrow books and audio stock from us in person, but can also download electronic books and audio materials for use on your PC, iphone, ipad etc. Please see the external links section to the right of this page to access the Wales Library eBook Service and One Click Digital sites.
Using the sites you can access hundreds of e-books, free to download. You just need to put in your library membership number (the eight digits without the 'P' and your PIN - ask staff if you have not yet got yours). You can borrow, or reserve, up to four books at any one time, and can choose how long you borrow any book for - between 1 day and 21 days. Please note - the e-books are not in a format suitable for a Kindle.
Using the sites you can also access hundreds of e-audiobooks, free to download. You can borrow up to ten books at any one time, and you choose how long you borrow any book for - between 1 day and 21 days. If you finish a book before it is due back, you can easily return it. No waiting list, no queues, no concern about the weather or getting to the library!
We now offer a range of subscriptions to magazines online which our customers can read on a range of devices from PC, Mac, iPhones, iPads, Android devices, Kindle Fire and Blackberry Playbook.

Universal Class - Online Courses
Universal Class offers our customers a non-accredited courses for their own personal enrichment. The courses are undertaken online and can be studied at their own pace with real instructors available to talk to via e-mail.
It is possible enrol in up to 5 courses at one time and there are over 500 courses covering a multitude of subjects ranging from photography, bookkeeping, marketing, art, and lots, lots more!

Want to Learn a Language at your own pace from the comfort of your own home?
Any Merthyr Libraries member can create their own membership on the Transparent Language website. Once you have you can access over 100 language courses for free. The lessons use images, sound, online flipcards, and you can even create your own dictionary. Above all, you go at your own pace - repeating or skipping through sessions as you wish. You can start one language, or several at the same time. You can either work through the whole course, or just do the quick sessions that give you confidence in the 100 of the most words and phrases. All this, for free. You do not even have to come into the library, just use the link and create your membership.
Online Driving Theory Test
Theory Test Pro is a highly realistic online simulation of the UK's driving theory tests for all vehicle categories. It contains all the official test questions licensed from the DSA, the people who set the tests.

We provide a "virtual" reference library to all library members with home or library Internet access. Simply click on the links below and enter your unique membership number to use the search facilities.
Oxford Reference Online

We also have resources such as the Ancestry library website and Find My Past website which are available within the library free of charge - ask any member of staff for more information, or for help to start using these valuable resources.
You will only be able to gain access through our Library account when using PC’s in the libraries. If you are using a PC at home you can sign up for an account of your own but there is a monthly charge for the service.
