Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, as a Highway Authority, is responsible for the maintenance of all adopted highways and footways in the Borough.

Highways that are not part of the adopted highway network remain the responsibility of the landowner.

Newly constructed , or proposed , highways that have satisfied the current design criteria could be adopted by the Highways Authority subject to the successful completion of a ‘ Section 38 Highways Act Agreement' between the developer and the Highway Authority.

A definitive hardcopy of the adopted highway network is held in the highways department located in the Ty Keir Hardie Building for viewing in normal working hours.
