Bedlinog Ward - Neighbourhood Renewal Assessment (NRA)
Reference: PR708
News Category: Press Release

As residents in Bedlinog and Trelewis will already be aware, Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council has recently commissioned Michael Howard Associates (MHA) to carry out a Neighbourhood Renewal Assessment (NRA) of the Bedlinog Ward. The purpose of the study is to gather the evidence required to declare a formal Renewal Area, which will attract millions of pounds of investment from a range of sources, including the Welsh Assembly Government. If successful, the money will be used to improve private dwellings, local amenities and the local street scene.

The first part of the assessment involves a sample survey of housing conditions in the community. Surveyors are already surveying selected dwellings in the villages of Bedlinog and Trelewis.

Cllr Gareth Jones commented:  “With a resident questionnaire having been delivered to each home in the ward seeking your views, it is imperative that every resident completes and returns them. This is your opportunity to have your say!”

Completed questionnaires can be returned to specific mailboxes at:

• The Bedlinog Resource Centre; and
• Trelewis Post Office on the High Street

Alternatively, residents can hand completed questionnaires to Michael Howard Associate surveyors in the locality, or return them to the Council at the Civic Centre, Merthyr Tydfil addressed to ‘The Housing Renewal Team’.

Local Ward Councillors Leighton Smart and Gareth Jones fully support the study and are urging all residents to make their views known by returning completed questionnaires and attending the open days.

Julian Pike, Group Leader for Housing Renewal for the Council added: ”We have organised two public consultation days to gather the views of local residents about their communities. They have been arranged for:

• Tuesday, 16th February 2010 at the Bedlinog Resource Centre from 1pm to 5:45pm; and
• Wednesday, 17th February 2010 at the OAP Hall in Trelewis from 1pm to 6.30pm

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.”

In the meantime should anyone have any queries, please contact the Housing Renewal Team of the Council on (01685) 725357.
