Adult Community Learning (ACL)

The MTCBC Adult Community Learning team provides a broad curriculum of learning opportunities to adults age 16+ across the Borough. 

These learning opportunities are funded through Welsh Governments Adult Community learning Grant.

As a department we are committed to providing a varied programme of learning - which meets Welsh Government skills priorities and responds to learners needs and interests through ‘learn your way’.  We strive to ensure a range of quality assured courses are available to help individuals progress in work, improve skills for life and succeed in their communities - Encouraging and supporting you to be the “best version” of yourself.

Classes take place in community venues close to where you live meaning you can learn locally and at your own pace – or online from the comfort of your own home.  Currently our classes are FREE to everyone.

  • Skills Clubs - brush up, improve your Literacy and Numeracy Skills for beginners 16+ (Pre-entry) or learning for more advanced learners (Level1 & 2).
  • Essential Skills – using Numbers, developing Communication skills and Digital/IT skills
  • GCSE equivalents for Maths and English.

All these learning opportunities can benefit you and your family in a range of ways including through entry to Further Education, Training and or Employment

  • Develop ICT Skills: 
  • Word Processing Skills.
  • ICDL (International Computer Driving License – Using Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint packages)
  • Digital Literacy - Using social media – and being a “digital citizen” (online shopping, keeping safe online etc) Use of online Platforms (Zoom, Teams etc), Applying for Universal Credit - Completing online forms, make online payments.

New from 2023:

Our new ‘Multiply’ project is available FREE to anyone from 16+ with the focus on supporting people with support developing their Numeracy/maths skills through informal accredited and non- accredited learning.

Engagement sessions and classes are delivered across North, Mid and south of the Borough where you can learn:

  • Cooking on a Budget
  • Learn how to Crochet.
  • Learn how to sew.
  • Budgeting skills

Plus many more!

We also work with Local schools to provide support for parents to enable them to help their child with homework through our ‘Family Learning’ sessions.
