Approved suppliers
Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council does not operate an Approved Suppliers list for any particular requirement. The Council does participate in a number of Frameworks that include awarded suppliers following a competitive tendering exercise.
Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council buys supplies and services from a wide range of suppliers and service providers and awards contracts to those organisations that can meet the Council's requirements and standards.
The Council want to help increase the capacity of local contractors, Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) to supply us. We hope that increased business locally will, in turn, help local employment and create other community benefits.
The Council will advertise the majority of its contracts on Sell2Wales. To find out more information on registering your interest please see our Procurement - contracts management page.
The Council’s major contracts are advertised in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU), on the Welsh public sector website Sell2Wales and sometimes in relevant trade journals.
Our aim is to seek value for money on goods and services bought, whilst continuously improving the procurement process to achieve best value. The type, value and complexity of the contract will usually determine our approach to the market.
The procedure the Council uses to purchase goods and services depend on several factors which include:
- The value of the goods and services concerned
- The risks associated with the requirement
- The frequency with which they are required
- United Kingdom and European Community laws
