The College Merthyr Tydfil has, today, been named as the joint top performing vocational college in Wales in 2017/18 for the second year running, achieving an overall success rate of 86%, 2% above the Welsh sector average of 84%. In addition the college is ranked as the top performing college in Wales for main qualifications.
The success rates, published in the Welsh Government Learner Outcomes report also highlights that the college is ranked second in Wales for both A level and academic qualifications.
The Learner Outcome Report, which is published annually, shows each further education provider’s overall performance as taken from the Lifelong Learning Wales Record (LLWR). The report includes information on the percentage of all qualifications achieved by learners against current ‘national comparators’ – the average rate achieved across all FE institutions in Wales.
Over the last three years, the college’s success rates for vocational qualifications have increased by 3%, main qualifications by 6% and our A level success rates have increased by 9%. In addition, we have seen our academic success rates increase by 10%. This rise in success rates together with the growing number of awards and accolades being achieved by both our learners and the college overall, demonstrates our commitment to raising levels of achievement and providing each and every learner with the best learning experience possible.
Head of College, Lisa Thomas commented, “These are our best learner outcomes ever and are very much a team effort, reflecting the college’s unremitting focus on outstanding teaching, learning and student support. The fact that we have continually improved our outcomes over the last three years is the result of hard work, clarity of focus and an absolute determination to do the very best for every single one of our learners.”
