On October 15 2019, a Welsh National Day to celebrate Diwrnod ShwMae Su’Mae took place in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council.  The purpose of the day is to say ShwMae Su’mae to people!

This is a National event, which takes places every year, and as a Council, this is being organised in line with the Council five year Welsh Language Strategy SHWMAERONMENT.

Events were planned on the morning of October 15 from 9:30 – 12:00 at Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council's Civic Centre.

Two degree students who came into the Council on work experience in August and September came back to assist with the arrangements, they also spoke about their experiences they gained of working bilingually in the organisation.

A Welsh Language Champions Group was launched this will be for a representative from various departments to come together to share ideas and use god practice to comply with the Welsh Language Standards.

To promote the Welsh Language in the Borough Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Santes Tudful and Rhyd y Grug came in to perform a few items in Welsh and Mistar Urdd was present!

An enjoyable day was had by all!
