From taster fitness sessions to more strenuous activities, educational walks and even litter-picking while jogging, an outdoor festival next month will also introduce people to the Merthyr Tydfil’s most beautiful countryside

The fourth Merthyr Tydfil Stride and Ride festival from June 16-29, will give people the chance to try their hand at newer pursuits such as buggy run sessions and Plogging or eco-running.  But they’ll also be able to take part in the more conventional sports of swimming and cycling with established groups.

The 10-day festival is a joint venture between the County Borough Council, Active Merthyr Tydfil and the Merthyr Tydfil Stride and Ride Forum - which was formed following the success of the inaugural event in 2017.

Other activities include Nordic Walking, Orienteering, Merthyr Tydfil Park Run, triathlon, scenic nature reserve and mountain walks, Geocaching and town centre history trail walks.

County Borough Council Cabinet member for Regeneration and Public Protection Cllr Geraint Thomas said: “The Stride and Ride Festival is going from strength to strength, with an extra day and even more activities this year.

“It’s a fantastic way of bringing together volunteers from many sports clubs throughout Merthyr Tydfil and potential new members of the public, while allowing everyone to appreciate the beauty of our trails network and other open spaces.”
