In order to meet the ever increasing recycling targets set by Welsh Government, Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is asking that householders ensure they separate their waste into recyclable and non-recyclable items before bringing it to the Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HW&RCs) so it can be deposited into the relevant containers on site. Please do not bring black bags of waste that contain recyclable material to the site as you will not be able to deposit of it on site and will be asked to remove the recyclables from it. Residents are able to dispose of small amounts of non-recyclable waste at the sites providing that, as far as practicable, any recyclables have been separated and placed in the appropriate container for recycling.
Waste and Recycling Wardens are present on the site in Dowlais to offer advice to householders on their waste and what can and cannot be recycled, and to ensure that as much waste as possible is being recycled; this may include opening any bagged waste for inspection and further sorting. Please do this at home before arriving at the site to avoid any unnecessary delays.
Please note the HW&RCs are for household waste only and Trade Waste from trade premises must not be brought onto the sites. As the sites are not currently licensed to accept trade waste, it is illegal to deposit trade waste at the HW&RC’s and traders will be refused entry.
If you are a trader in Merthyr Tydfil you must ensure you have a trade waste contract in place to manage your waste in the appropriate manner. If you bring your waste to the site in a commercial type vehicle or with a trailer without a permit, you will not be allowed to tip your waste.
If you are having work done by a trade person/builder/other private company, you should ensure that a skip is hired to dispose of any waste generated.
There are two HW&RC's in the Borough located at:
Both sites are open every day between 09:00 - 20:00
