2,700 homes were selected to take part in the 10-week trial by WRAP, The Waste and Resources Action Programme.
Those selected will have a weekly collection of items such as plastic carrier bags, bread bags, bubble wrap and plastic wrappers from can/bottle multi-packs.
Councillor Kevin Gibbs, Portfolio Member for Neighbourhood Services, said: “We are delighted to be the pilot authority in Wales for this scheme and we hope that the residents selected will embrace it.
“As you may have seen, there has been a lot of coverage in the press recently about the amount of plastics in our seas, so now more than ever, it’s important for everyone to get involved in recycling and to save our planet for future generations.”
Plastic Bag recycling collections will be taking place from 1st October until 3rd December, 2018. For further information visit merthyr.gov.uk/plasticfilm.
