Summer family challenge

The quest is on this summer to find Merthyr Tydfil’s most active family!

An exciting range of free, mainly outdoor activities is on offer at parks and other green spaces across the county borough - and families taking part in all of them are in line to win a prize.

From nature walks to trail cycling, and a digital treasure hunt to geocaching, the Council’s Active Merthyr team is aiming to ensure nobody gets bored over the six-week school holiday.

The Summer Family Challenge includes the opportunity to:

• explore the animal trail at Cyfarthfa Park

• spend the day cycling along beautiful local trails

• take a nature walk around the lake at Parc Taf Bargoed

• discover geocaching - a digital treasure hunt - across Merthyr Tydfil

• enjoy a picnic and spend the afternoon playing at Thomastown Park

• go swimming at Merthyr Leisure Centre and Aberfan Community Centre, where there are free swim sessions and swimming lessons during the holidays (please note – adults still have to pay to swim)

• have fun in Garwnant Park.

• attend National Play Day, a free event at Cyfarthfa Park on Wednesday 7 August

To be in with the chance of winning a family sports equipment bundle, enter the competition by taking part in all the activities on the challenge card, which can be downloaded below or collected at the National Play Day event in Cyfarthfa Park on 7 August.

Then take a photo of the completed card and upload it to Facebook or twitter and tag @activemerthyrtydfil Alternatively, you can email the photo to active.merthyrtydfil@merthyr.gov.uk

The summer challenge runs throughout August and the winners will be drawn on Thursday 8 September.
