A public consultation exercise was recently carried out to find out if the public would prefer the vehicular access to cemeteries in Merthyr Tydfil to remain open as they are currently, or to be locked at certain times.
Unfortunately, due to a technical error, the responses could not be analysed. As a result of this, the consultation is being run again for a period of 4 weeks, from today (Monday, 14th May) until Monday, 11th June.
The pedestrian gates in all our cemeteries in Merthyr Tydfil have always remained open, however, in February 2014, a decision was made by Full Council to leave the cemeteries’ vehicular gates unlocked reducing a security contract and resulting in a £75k saving per annum.
Following recent complaints from some of our residents to the local Councillors in relation to anti-social behaviour in some of our cemeteries, it was been decided to review the situation and ask you, our residents your views on this matter.
The findings of the public consultation will then be reported back to Full Council for consideration, where a decision will be made on the opening or closing times of the vehicular cemetery
