Hundreds of people will be arriving in Merthyr Tydfil for this month’s half-marathon – and plans are afoot to make sure the route is looking its best.
Keep Wales Tidy and the County Borough Council are working in partnership and using the annual to Spring Clean Cymru event as an opportunity to spruce up stretches of the Taff and Trevithick Trails in readiness for both runners and spectators.
The half-marathon is on Sunday, 24 March with the litter pick taking place the day before, starting from The College Merthyr Tydfil at 10am.
Keep Wales Tidy Senior Projects Officer Jake Castle said: “It’s so important that these wonderful assets of ours are kept in good condition. Loads of people get a huge amount of pleasure and health benefits from them and they’re also massively important wildlife corridors.
“Thousands of people enjoy those two trails every year - on foot, bicycle and horse - and littering sometimes spoils the experience
“The trails are among our countryside gems and all of us need to do more to protect them. The half-marathon will showcase them and hopefully encourage more visitors to return.”
