School closures, emergency childcare and free school meals

The Council is continuing its childcare arrangements during the Covid-19 pandemic by running a hub model across Merthyr Tydfil to meet the needs of school age children up to the age of 14 whose parents are both critical key workers. Arrangements for Pre-school children are currently in existing childcare settings that remain open across the borough however this is under constant review.

Every effort to care for children at home should be made before using childcare and new applicants should consider carefully the guidance provided below on key worker roles before applying for a place within these hubs.

Currently childcare hubs are open weekdays between 8am and 4pm.  From the 6th April this will be extended to 6pm.

From the 4th April childcare hubs will be also be open on weekends providing a service between 8am and 6pm.

Please note there is different eligibility criteria for weekdays and weekends/bank holidays, please see below for clarification.

Guidance documents are available on this page which provide further information.

Parents will be informed of any changes as they happen.

Please Note We require 5 days’ notice to provide childcare
