Builders Skips on the Highways

A builders skip cannot be deposited on a highway without the permission of the highway authority in accordance with Section 139 of the Highways Act 1980. There is a charge levied by the Highways Section for the consideration of an application to place a skip in the highway. The charge is allowed as a result of the introduction of Local Authority (Transport Charges) Regulations 1998.

Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Residents

If you are intending to hire a skip you will have to apply to one of the local skip companies. They will then apply to the County Borough Council for permission to place the skip on the highway as close as possible to your premises.

Skip Companies

All skip companies intending to apply for permission to place a skip on the highway must provide a copy of their current Public Liability Insurance (minimum £2,000,000) and Waste Disposal License. After the insurance expiry date they must forward a copy of their renewed insurance.
