Scheduled Ancient Monuments

Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council has 48 Scheduled Ancient Monuments (SAM). SAMs are structures, archaeological sites or ruins which have little economic use. SAMs under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979 are protected by law. It is an offence to carry out works at the site of a SAM without first obtaining the necessary SAM consent from Cadw.
