Supporting young people leaving care

Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is committed and constantly striving to improve outcomes for our young people who are leaving care, and to successfully fulfil our role as corporate parents to enable our young people to make a successful transition to independent living.

LAC Forum (Participation Group)

Care leavers come together on a monthly basis to share their experiences of the looked after system and think of ways that the service could be improved. They are looking to hold a larger consultation event where the panel members hope to run activities throughout the day to get a wider view of how Social Services and other organisations are working with care leavers.

If you are interested, please contact your Personal Advisor or Social Worker for more details.

Other Opportunities

There is a Youth Group / Centre in Forsythia Close, Gurnos Estate run by 3G’s. This youth group runs drop in sessions Monday to Thursday. Young people aged up to 25 are welcome. Activities include health and beauty, sports, arts, volunteering and music workshops.

If you need any further information then you can contact your Personal Advisor or Social Worker.
