Health and safety accident reporting
The reporting of accidents and illness is a statutory duty and some will be investigated to ascertain whether there is a particular problem. If there has been negligence this can result in prosecution of both workers and the employer.
Please note that the Health and Safety Executive also enforce Health and Safety legislation. The enforcing authority will depend on the industry in question, for instance construction and heavy industry are HSE allocated industries and warehouses and the leisure sector are mainly enforced by the local authority. Officers will be able to advise you of this when you call.
Any reportable, work related accidents need to be reported via the Health and Safety Executive website www.hse.gov.uk
