Question
This Freedom of Information request is concerned with the general support for pet owners in your local authority area and also the protection of pets (as property) when persons are being cared for by social services/in hospital. This is with specific regard for Section 58 of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014. 1. Do you have a budget to pay for emergency boarding for pets belonging to owners in crisis accessing Social, Health and Housing services who need to leave their home and do not have any friends or family to provide for them. For example, owners going in to hospital, fleeing domestic abuse, accessing mental health care or being made homeless? If you have answered yes • How much is the current budget • How much was the budget for 2016/17, and how much was spent. • Do you use an animal welfare organisation or a commercial boarding kennels. If so, is this on a contractual or ad hoc basis. • How much do you pay for commercial boarding per night, and is this a preferential rate • How many pets did you pay for boarding for during the financial year 2016/17 • Do you have an eligibility criteria? If so, can you state what it is If you have answered no • What happens to pets belonging to owners in crisis who need to leave their home in an emergency and do not have any friends or family to care for them? 2. Do you work with any animal welfare organisations to support pets in the home belonging to owners accessing Social, Health or Housing services. Examples include helping with pet food, microchipping, neutering and vet care. If you have answered yes, could you please provide further details about the organisation and the type of support provided by them. 3. Do you have any other comments you would like to add regarding the subject of supporting pet owners in crisis? 4. What information is available a) to the public and b) animal welfare groups about what support is available from the local authority.

1. There is no specific budget • We look at each case individually in relation to the temporary or permanent rehoming of pets 2. We do not work with any specific animal welfare organisation. 3. No 4. Referrals are taken from social workers / care managers in relation to service users.
