1. We currently have 72 Young Carers registered with the Local Authority Young Carers assessments undertaken: 2022-2023 - 144 Young Carers 2023-2024 - 133 Young Carers 2024-2025 - 123 Young Carers 2. How much local authority funding (with figures) has there been for Young Carer activities and/or short breaks in your area each year for the last three financial years? 24/25 -£70k 23/24- £80k 22/23 – £60k 3. How many youth club sessions and/or activities, short breaks or trips for Young Carers are provided in your area? How many of these are fully or partially funded by the council? There are 3 groups that meet fortnightly term time. During non-term time trips and activities are organised usually once per week. Up until April 2025 the LA commissioned Barnardos for the Young Carers service and alongside this funding they were also proactive in relation to any grant funding and negotiating with providers for reduced entrance fees. 4. Is there any additional provision in your area for Young Carers over school holidays - and if so, what? How much of this is fully or partially funded by the council? The LA has a Youth provision that is open access to all children and young people with the Merthyr Tydfil Local Authority area.
