Re: Disabled policies, Wales 1. Has your authority adopted the social model of disability in its practices? The Local Authority has not adopted the ‘social model of disability’ specifically. However, in our training we discuss the removal of barriers people face when accessing our services, and making our services more inclusive. Our Strategic Equality Plan includes an objective about making our services more accessible. And in our practices, consideration of using different formats, creating an inclusive environment within the workplace, using accessibility toolbars and checkers to ensure information is accessible to residents and that everyone can participate, raising awareness of how to support our workforce etc. 2. If yes to Q1, has this been formally adopted at a council meeting or similar? N/A 3. Have your staff and councillors been trained in disability awareness, including the social model of disability? Training is available on our training platforms around all equalities including disability and accessibility. Information sheets are provided to staff and councillors through our hubs and on our Intranet. Specific training has taken place on equalities generally, neurodiversity, accessibility etc, including awareness raising of key dates throughout the year. Training looks at inclusion, removing barriers, making our services more inclusive and accessible, using our accessibility toolbar etc. 4. Do your equality impact assessments include reference to the social model of disability and its implications for policy decisions? The LA has an Integrated Impact Assessment. It makes reference to disability but not the ‘social model of disability’ specifically. 5. If yes, please provide the specific job title. The Local Authority does not employ an access officer or similar. 6.
