• Any relevant figures or breakdowns of waiting lists or unmet demand for ALN-appropriate childcare

For the purpose of this request, ‘early years’ refers to children aged 0-5 years who have not yet entered compulsory primary education.

Where exact terminology differs, please interpret this request in line with the closest equivalent category used by the department.

The information below is provided back to Welsh Government as part of the Flying Start programme, this information does not get reported in the Annual Flying Start Statistical Release.

Information provided is in financial years as this is a requirement of the Flying Start grant.

24/25 21 Flying Start pre-school age children with IDP

25/26 17 Flying Start pre-school age children with IDP (these figures only cover the period April 2025- August 2025 as this is the data that was available at the time of responding)

The information below from the ALN Team is recorded for each academic year, therefore this data is a little different to the Flying Start data which is recorded in financial years.

Academic year 2023/24 31 pre-school age children with IDPs

Academic year 2025/26 39 pre-school age children with IDPs (these figures cover the period September 2025 – March 2026)
