Re: Regarding commercial waste collection, bin standardisation, and contamination rates within your council.

Please provide the following data, if held, for the following calendar years:

• 1st April 2024 - 31st March 2025

• 1st April 2025 – 31st March 2026

1. The current standard bin colours used by the council for commercial and business waste collections for general waste, dry mixed recycling, paper and cardboard, glass, food waste.

2. The total tonnage of commercial/business recycling collected.

3. The total tonnage of commercial/business recycling that was rejected or sent to landfill/EfW (Energy from Waste) due to contamination.

4. The number of commercial/business waste collections refused (i.e. the bin was not emptied) by the collection crew due to bin contamination.

5. The number of formal warnings, fines, or Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) issued to businesses for failing to correctly separate waste or for bin contamination.

660 and 1100 litre bins are blue with black lid.

Glass bins are black bodied with orange lids.

Paper and Card bins up to 360 litres are green, 6

60 and 1100 litre bins are blue with black lid.

Plastic, cans, and cartons are green.

Food bins are blue.

2. The total tonnage of commercial/business recycling collected.

• 1st April 2024 - 31st March 2025 1776.32 tonnes

• 1st April 2025 – 31st March 2026 1800.43 tonnes

3. The total tonnage of commercial/business recycling that was rejected or sent to landfill/EfW (Energy from Waste) due to contamination.

An accurate business recycling reject rate cannot be provided, as business recycling is collected and reported in combination with domestic recycling and is subsequently bulked and sent to the end destination without separation.

4. The number of commercial/business waste collections refused (i.e. the bin was not emptied) by the collection crew due to bin contamination.

Warning tags are applied to the bin providing guidance to ensure contamination – no digital information retained to provide actual numbers.

5. The number of formal warnings, fines, or Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) issued to businesses for failing to correctly separate waste or for bin contamination.

16 warning letters issued in both periods and advice given on how to separate waste in accordance with workplace recycling regulations. Service would be revoked if not adhered to
