Please provide the date on which that household joined the register, but no information that would identify the household.
5) For each financial year from 2020/21 to 2025/26, please provide:
1. The number of households removed from the housing register/social housing waiting list.
2. Of these, the number removed because they had been allocated social housing.
3. The number removed for all other reasons.
Answer
1Please provide the number of households currently on the council's housing register/social housing waiting list.
As at 16 October 2026, there were 2,223 active applications on the housing register.
2) Please provide the average number of households on the council's housing register/social housing waiting list for each year from 2021 to 2026.
The housing register is a live system and provides a position at the point at which a report is produced. The Council does not hold sufficiently consistent historic snapshot data to calculate an accurate annual average for 2021, 2022 or 2023.
Regular monthly reporting of the housing register commenced in 2024. Based on the information available, the approximate number of active applications during each year was within the following ranges:

Please note: The figures for 2024-2026 are approximate ranges based on available reporting data. The 2026 figure relates to the period available up to the date of this response.

The Council operates a needs-based allocations policy, introduced in December 2023.However, applicants are required to bid for suitable available properties.
The length of time an applicant remains on the housing register should therefore not, in isolation, be interpreted as the length of time they have been actively waiting for or bidding for any available social housing property.
Some longer-standing applicants may have specific requirements or preferences in relation to property type or area and may undertake limited or no bidding activity. An application can remain active where the applicant continues to complete the required annual renewal process.
