Question
I would like information on any discussions and decisions, to the re-opening of the Abernant Tunnel during the last two years.
Alongside this, I would like to know the following:
1 - When will the Abernant Tunnel be re-opened?
Answer
Funding for the development of a scheme to open the Abernant Tunnel for walking and cycling was made available in 2026/27 by Welsh Government via the Cardiff Capital Region’s Regional Transport Development Plan. No progress has been made to date as we seek advice from Natural Resources Wales on the ecological challenges aligned to this project.
There is no current timeline for the delivery of this project
