Translating and Interpreting Services

We aim to ensure all documents produced by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council for public consumption are bilingual Welsh/English, in accordance with the requirements of the national Welsh Language Standards.

Welsh language translation is carried out by Menter Iaith Merthyr Tudful based at Canolfan Soar in Pontmorlais.

Interpreting Services

The Council offers an interpretation and translation service to customers who need language and communication support in accessing Council services.

This service assists Council services such as housing, schools and social work to understand our customers:

• If you cannot speak English
• If English is your second language and your appointment includes discussion of complex issues which you need to understand
• If you have a visual or audio impairment

The Council has signed up to Language Line. The service is available via telephone in our reception area and can be accessed from any desk with assistance from a member of staff.
