On behalf of the people of Merthyr Tydfil, we express our deepest sadness to hear the news of the death of our Queen, Her Majesty Elizabeth II.
Today is a day of great sadness for the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. HRH had an extraordinarily long reign; the longest of any British Sovereign and an outstanding example of service in wartime and peacetime.
During her reign, she has been a symbol of stability through decades where the world has seen many changes.
Our condolences to all members of the Royal family.
We can look back with gratitude and look forward in offering our support and loyalty to our new King Charles III.
Flags across the County Borough will fly at half-mast until 08.00 am on the day after the Queen’s funeral.
May she forever rest in peace.
Councillor Declan Sammon, Mayor of Merthyr Tydfil
