The annual Diwrnod Shwmae/Su’mae event has been deemed a huge success, with an abundance of residents attending on Saturday 12th October.
Merthyr Tydfil also saw a significant increase in footfall around the town centre, after the event was hosted at Penderyn Square for the first time this year.
As part of the celebrations, Caedraw School, Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Rhyd y Grug, Abercanaid Primary School, Dowlais Primary School, Gwaunfarren Primary School, Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Santes Tudful, Pen y Dre High School, Gellifaelog Primary School and Ysgol-y-Graig all performed a variety of musical items.
Angharad Rhiannon's Welsh musical performance also left a lasting impression on everyone who watched it in the afternoon. The members of the public were completely blown away by her talent and artistry.
Sue Walker, Director of Education said:
“The event was an amazing opportunity to showcase the use of the Welsh Language across the County Borough. It was a fantastic chance for everyone to come together and celebrate the beauty and richness of the Welsh language.”
Cllr Gareth Lewis, Cabinet Member for Education added:
“We had so many incredible activities and performances that highlighted the importance of keeping the language alive and thriving in our community. We hope that everyone who attended left feeling inspired and proud of the unique linguistic heritage we have here. Can't wait for the next event! – Dwi methu aros am y digwyddiad nesaf!”
