Merthyr Tydfil’s new bus interchange has picked up its fifth prestigious award in the space of a year, this time being named the best building project in Wales 2022.
The £13m bus station was announced winner of the Building Project of the Year category in the annual Constructing Excellence in Wales (CEW) Awards, the second time it has been recognised by CEW in 12 months.
“It’s clear why the interchange keeps on receiving these accolades,” said Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing Cllr Geraint Thomas. “It looks amazing, the materials and quality are of the highest standard, and it’s fully electrified - no fossil fuel requirement – with electric taxi charging and future provision of EV bus charging.
“We’ve already won awards for sustainability and planning excellence, but this one is the main accolade presented annually by Constructing Excellence in Wales.”
Officers from the County Borough Council’s Regeneration team, design team Capita and Morgan Sindall Construction were presented with the award.
CEW works with all elements of construction and organisations in the public and private sectors to help the industry to improve its performance to deliver better quality and value for money to its clients and end users.
The bus station project be now be going forward to the UK Constructing Excellence Awards 2022 event in November.
