Pupils at Caedraw Primary School are celebrating outstanding success after being nominated for the Best Animation (Ages 5–11) category at the Into Film Awards for the second year running. Following last year’s amazing achievement, the school has once again been invited to attend the prestigious ceremony in London which the pupils are eagerly looking forward to.
This year’s nomination comes from the current Year 5 cohort, whose animation, The Letter, has captured attention with its heartfelt storytelling and powerful message. Created collaboratively by every pupil in the class, the film tells the story of an elderly bear who is missing his son after he leaves home. Exploring themes of loneliness and community, the narrative follows the bear as he writes letters in an attempt to reconnect—only for them to be repeatedly lost along the way.
Adding a light-hearted twist, a mischievous squirrel collects the missing letters throughout the story. Eventually, the pile grows too large and bursts, scattering letters across the town and bringing the community together. The film delivers a poignant message: “It starts with the first step,” encouraging people to seek support and connection from those around them.
The project reflects strong links between the school and the local Caedraw Road community, with pupils aiming to highlight shared experiences of loneliness and the importance of reaching out.
The production process was entirely pupil-led where they developed storyboards, wrote the script, designed and created puppets and sets, and brought the story to life using stop-motion animation techniques.
Headteacher Dawn Williams expressed her pride in the achievement:
“We are absolutely delighted with this amazing result. It is a testament to the dedication and hard work of both staff and pupils. Many have given up their time, coming in early and staying late to ensure the project was a success. The film carries an important message about recognising loneliness and supporting one another within our communities.”
This continued recognition highlights Caedraw’s commitment to creativity, collaboration, and meaningful storytelling through film.
