This year, the carers week theme is ‘Putting carers on the map’ and runs from 10 – 16 June. It is a UK wide campaign that supports unpaid carers by raising awareness of them in their local communities and what daily challenges they face and how we can support them to continue with their caring role and responsibilities.

“It is estimated that they save the economy £162 million a year – the equivalent of a second NHS” – A quote from CarersWeek.org 2024

What is an unpaid carer? An unpaid carer is an individual who cares for anyone who requires support due to being unable to care for themselves.

Merthyr Tydfil Council have organised weeklong drop-in sessions at our newly established local Town Hub centre hub, where carers are able to pop in to see what support is available to them in Merthyr. There are a variety of organisations on board to personalise what support/services are right for you.

If any carers are unable to make the events at the hub, there will be a pamphlet containing all the organisations services that attended carers week, including leaflets, posters and contact information, at reception in the town hub the week after carers week.

For your local carer support or any questions on the upcoming carers week events, please contact Merthyr Tydfil’s County borough councils Carer Support Coordinator, Caitlin Matthews on Works Tel: 07762408368 or Email: Caitlin.matthews@merthyr.gov.uk.
