Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council has been awarded a prestigious Ministry of Defence (MoD) Silver Award for its Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.

The scheme includes bronze, silver, and gold awards for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to Defence and the Armed Forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant. The council is also a signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant, showing its commitment to support the active and retired Armed Forces community.

Merthyr Tydfil CBC’s Armed Forces Champion, Cllr Andrew Barry, said: “I am delighted that our Council has been recognised with the Silver Award. This award highlights the importance of the support our Council provides to the Armed Forces Community and recognises the value they bring to our Council as employees.

“The policies and processes that we have implemented as part of this work will make a positive difference to our Armed Forces employees and their families now and in the future.

“I am extremely proud of the work we have achieved and I would like to thank all of those involved in achieving this reward; recognising the caring professionalism they have shown.”
