Cwm Taf Water Supply Strategy: Non-statutory consultation: 10 July – 9 September 2024
- Categories : Press Release
- 11 Jul 2024
At Welsh Water, one of our top priorities is providing our customers with a first class water supply direct to their taps. To ensure we can continue to do this, we now need to invest in new and resilient water treatment works and associated facilities in the Merthyr Tydfil area.
In 2022, we consulted with the local community and stakeholders on early proposals to build a single new water treatment works near Pontsarn, we have since been reviewing these plans and have developed alternative proposals. We’re in the early stages of design and are now holding a non-statutory consultation to share these early proposals and receive feedback from the local community.
We want to let you know further details on how you can view these proposals, share your feedback and also contact us with any queries you may have.
Our proposals include:
- An upgrade to our existing water treatment works at Llwyn-onn.
- A new water treatment works on land in Merthyr Tydfil - Dan-y-Castell Farm.
- A new raw water pumping station on our existing water treatment works at Pontsticill.
- New or upgraded raw water pipelines to carry water from the existing reservoirs to the new water treatment works.
- New or upgraded pipework to carry treated water from the new water treatment works to the existing network and onto customers.
