On Saturday, June 28th, Penderyn Square transformed into a vibrant party hub, drawing in a whopping 2,000 people who were eager to soak up the energy of the most epic 80’s festival to hit our town. As the first festival of its kind, it was a celebration that left a fabulous impression on Merthyr Tydfil.

"We're absolutely thrilled with the overwhelming success of the Day Fever Festival," exclaimed Cllr Brent Carter, Leader of the Council. "It was amazing to see our town come alive with music, laughter, and a sense of community. The festival has not only put our town on the map but has also brought our residents together, fostering a sense of belonging and pride. We're grateful for the support from the Welsh Government and UK Government, which made this incredible event possible."

The festival was a throwback in its entertainment, boasting an all-star lineup that included local boy, Jonny Owen and his wife, Vicky McClure, the talented Amelle formally of the Sugababes, The Electric 80's UK Live Band, Bradley from S Club 7, and the legendary Tiffany. But what truly made this event special was its inclusivity - the Fringe Festival, which took place throughout the town centre, was completely free, allowing everyone to join in on the fun and enjoy the local performers.

The impact of the festival was palpable, with a significant increase in footfall in the town centre. As people gathered to enjoy the music, food, and company, the town was filled with a renewed sense of vitality and excitement. "It was incredible to see our town buzzing with energy and life," said Cllr Carter. "The Day Fever Festival has shown us the power of community and the importance of investing in events that bring people together. We can't wait to build on this momentum and create even more unforgettable experiences for our residents and visitors."

Relive the highlights of the Day Fever Festival and get ready to join the conversation on social media using the hashtag #DayFeverMerthyr. Let's keep the spirit of this unforgettable event alive and make our town an even more amazing place to live, work, and visit!

This event was made possible thanks to UK Government's Shared Prosperity Fund Programme, Welsh Government’s Event Wales Grant and Merthyr Tydfil CBC.
