Free festive parking for Merthyr Tydfil shoppers

Christmas shoppers in Merthyr Tydfil have the added incentive again this festive season of free weekend town centre parking, starting on Christmas Family Fun Day, Saturday 19 November.
The County Borough Council and Big Heart of Merthyr Tydfil Business Improvement District (BID) are jointly funding free parking at all car parks in the centre on Fridays and Saturdays - Sunday is already free – until 31 December.
Council Leader Cllr Geraint Thomas said: “In previous years, free parking in the run-up to and over Christmas has provided a big boost for the local economy. Not having to pay for parking or having limited time in the town centre means that shoppers can relax and enjoy our fantastic range of shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants.”
Huw Williams, Chair of The Big Heart of Merthyr Tydfil Business Improvement District, said: “We are delighted to have secured free weekend parking on Fridays and Saturdays in the town centre from November 19 through to 31 December. This is a huge positive and will encourage seasonal shopping and visitors to the town. Supporting local businesses in our town is paramount to The Big Heart of Merthyr.”
