Council Leader, Councillor Kevin O’Neill, said: “It was a lovely experience being at the schools this morning and wonderful to see the young people so happy. I would like to congratulate and thank everyone involved in helping the young people achieve their goals.”

Councillor Lisa Mytton, Cabinet Member for Learning, said: “I would like to congratulate all the young people from the County Borough who received their GCSE results today.  As a parent I know what the challenges we and our children face when preparing for and undertaking the exams and so I would also like take this opportunity to thank the head teachers, teachers, and governors in our secondary schools; it is their hard work and constant strive for improvement that has led to the results we have seen today. We continue to value highly our partnership with all schools in the County Borough and encourage them to share best practice so that all Merthyr Tydfil pupils experience a great education, which provides them with the skills they need for work, further education and training.”

Sue Walker, Chief Education Officer, added: "It is pleasing to note that the overall pass rate across the county borough has gone up and the percentage of pupils gaining A*-A has also increased. It was wonderful to see the smiles on the faces of the young people this morning and hearing about all their achievements. Well done to everyone!"
