As part of Mental Health Awareness Week (11-17 May) Gellifaelog Primary School took part in an event called 'The Big School Workout’, run by Picture News in partnership with Joe Wicks, The Body Coach.
A South Wales company - Confident, Healthy, Active Me CIC were involved in the event and ran a social media competition for a South Wales school to digitally link up and be part of the live broadcast. Gellifaelog Primary School were nominated and lucky enough to be the winning school.
The pupils and staff were delighted to learn that we had won the competition and eagerly anticipated taking part in a workout led by such an inspiring role mode like Joe Wicks. It was a fantastic event that also shared an important message.
Miss Griffiths, who was involved in organising the event, said "Wellbeing is at the heart of our curriculum, and we regularly educate pupils on the link between exercise and mental health. We provide as many opportunities as possible for pupils across the school to stay active and move well. The Big School Workout was a great example of that, and the pupils were excited to be a part of such a big event!”
Headteacher, Mr James Voros said: “We were thrilled for Gellifaelog Primary School to be chosen as part of The Big School Workout. This event gave our pupils a great opportunity to see the positive link between exercise and mental health in action. The children were so excited to take part alongside Joe Wicks and to represent our school in a unique UK-wide event.”
