Pupils in Greenfield Special School have been working with a company called Value Added Education for the last 3 months to design an app focused on improving wellbeing and reducing stress.
The past 3 months have been filled with a wide variety of creative and enriching activities for the students. From digital artwork to podcasting, and even building an Olympic village in Minecraft, there's been no shortage of opportunities for pupils to explore their interests and express themselves. To top it off, songwriting, French-inspired acrylic art, and blog writing - what a diverse range of activities! It's clear that the students have been able to tap into their creativity and learn in such a fun and engaging way.
Greenfield is now the first special school in the world to have created an app, called ‘Greenfield Harmony’, which is available to download on the Apple store.
Cllr Geraint Thomas, Leader and Cabinet Member for Education commented, “The young people & staff at Greenfield should be really proud of their achievement. I'm sure the app will be a fantastic resource for both the students and their families.
“It's a big step forward for special education and sets a positive example for other schools to follow. I am sure the app will be a huge success and will help to improve the educational experience for everyone at Greenfield and beyond. Congratulations everyone at the school on this incredible accomplishment!”
Cllr John Thomas, Mayor of Merthyr Tydfil added, “Congratulations to the young people and staff at Greenfield for embracing technology to enhance learning. I have no doubt that this app will be a game-changer, not just for Greenfield, but for the wider educational community. Well done to everyone involved in this amazing accomplishment! Keep up the fantastic work!”
