Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council’s Housing and Regeneration Employability Team and People and Performance’s Children’s Services Team recently won the Bronze prize for the Community and Customer Focus Award at the iESE Award Ceremony.

The Employability Team assists individuals who are facing barriers to employment through the Council's QuickStart program and those searching for apprenticeships through the Shared Apprenticeship program.

The Pathway to Work programme, which is managed across the Employability Team and The CLA Education Team within Children's Services, specifically supports our Children Looked After and Care Leavers with a plethora of pre-employment to in employment and training support.

The team secured their award for being the initiative that does most to reinvigorate the local community and deliver outstanding service to their customers. The Aspire & Pathway to Work team has made a lasting impact on the community through initiatives that create opportunities and deliver real positive change. The Aspire QuickStart and Pathway to Work 6-month funded employment placement provide individuals with essential skills and confidence, supported by tailored mentoring.

A dedicated team, working closely with the team around the child/young person, focusses on supporting Children Looked after and Care Leavers to realise their potential, and fulfil their ambitions through targeted support. The Aspire Apprenticeship Programme further strengthens the area by offering robust mentoring and career building opportunities. These efforts have transformed lives, improved service outcomes and reduced reliance on public services, showcasing their commitment to exceptional community support and customer service.

Jared Green, Aspire and Pathway to Work Coordinator commented: “We are so proud of the hard work and dedication of the teams within the Aspire and Pathway To Work programmes. It has always been our vision to bring these programmes together so that the participants get the maximum support available.

“It is incredible to be recognised on a national scale and to be the only Local Authority in Wales to get through is impressive on its own, but to get the bronze award is incredible and testament to the fantastic team that are consistently and successfully delivering on a daily basis. We look forward to applying next year so watch this space.”

Cllr Louise Minett-Vokes, Cabinet Member for Social Services added: “I am thrilled to announce that Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council has been recognised with this prestigious award. Our dedicated team works tirelessly to provide the best possible service to our residents, and it is an honour to see their hard work acknowledged. This achievement is a testament to their commitment and passion for serving our community. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this accomplishment.”
