Local bus network information for April 2024

The Welsh Government’s Bus Transition Fund, which supported bus services across Wales during and since the pandemic, comes to an end on 31st March 2024. Bus patronage levels are still nowhere near pre-pandemic levels and therefore further funding is required to enable current services to continue. It has been necessary for each local authority to tender for those services that would not run after 31st March without ongoing financial support.
This Council has recently undertaken a successful tending exercise and would confirm that, alongside those services that will continue to run on a commercial basis, the following services and operators will also run from 1st April 2024 with financial support from the Welsh Government, via the Cardiff Capital Region.
Service 22 – Heolgerrig and Twynyrodyn Stagecoach
Service 24 – Abercanaid and Ponsticill Peter’s Minibuses
Service 25 – Cefn Coed and Trefechan Stagecoach
Service 33 – Galon Uchaf Stagecoach
Leader of the Council Geraint Thomas urged residents to use the bus network - “We are very fortunate that the Welsh Government via the Cardiff Capital Region continues to financially support our local bus network, but I would urge people to use the services as much as possible to ensure they can be sustained into the future”.
